The ferry

Being chased by seagulls
We pulled up anchor at 8:00 this morning and continued heading north on the ICW. The weather was a cool 60 degrees and sunny. It only got to 62 degrees today. I had on jeans, a T shirt, sweater, and a jacket and was still cold all day. For several miles we were followed by tons of seagulls. I don't know what they thought we had to eat on board, but they reminded me of the movie "The Birds" by Alfred Hitchkock. We also must have seen at least 200 dolphins playing in the water. When we get back to the Ohio River, the dolphins are the things I will miss the most. The other picture is of a rather small ferry. You could throw a rock across as far as the ferry travels. We ended up anchored out at Butler Creek which is just beyond Georgtown, SC.

This is the scenery at our anchorage at Butler Creek. We thought it was gorgeous and wanted to share it with you all.

Carol at the helm.

We just liked the way this looked.

Charleston, South Carolina

Feeling pretty good this morning, so we unleashed our lines from the dock at Lady's Island Marina, Beaufort, South Carolina at 7:45. We had pleasant temperatures and sunny skies the entire time. We had no set destination in mind, we just followed the ICW north. We went past Charleston, South Carolina and still felt like cruising. We ended up setting our anchor in Long Creek. There are no other boats here with us, it's rather romantic. We fixed Spamburgers (thought of you, Charlie), baked beans and chips. An easy meal for a couple of tired boaters. I am happy to report that my sciatica didn't bother me at all today, but I did stay on my medications just in case.

Monday, April 9, 2012

Today has been a wonderful day. We both feel so well that we are planning on leaving in the morning. Our friends Bob and Janet took off today, heading south. We will be heading north when we pull away from the dock. The people here have all been quite nice to us. The parts of Beaufort we saw, the hospital, and the doctors were all really nice. We really didn't get to see much more than that. Hopefully, tomorrow will be as good as today.

Easter Sunday

St. Peter's Church

John and I went to Mass at St. Peter's Church here on Lady's Island at 8:00 A.M. The inside of the Church is beautiful. I took a picture after Mass and will post it here. We drove around for a good hour looking for somewhere to go out for breakfast. We ended up at Burger King. Oh well. Later I went shopping for a few groceries in the hope that we may be able to leave here early this week. I don't know if I did too much this weekend or what, but my back and foot are aching today. Now that dinner and dishes are finished, I am just sitting and relaxing. We are both missing our grandchildren today especially because it is Easter. Facebook pictures are nice, but they are not the same as the real thing. Happy Easter to each and every one of you.

Good Friday

Yesterday John and I walked about 1/4 mile to the DQ for ice cream (that was a real incentive). We both felt pretty good even after the walk. It did me a lot of good just to be outdoors. We watched the Reds game on the back deck and as soon as the game was over, we had one heck of a storm. There was lightning all around us, lots of wind, and heavy rain. We stayed out on the aft deck watching the storm.

This morning John went after a rental car again and when he got back to the marina, I had sorted ALL of the laundry, 3 weeks worth. John carried the laundry and dropped me off at the laundromat. Even after finishing the wash, I felt pretty good. We went for a drive and checked out Beaufort and Dataw Island. I also gave John a badl needed haircut. I'm hoping that tomorrow is just as good as today. Every day seems to be getting better. We are having the bottom scraped on Monday and, as long as we both feel at least as good as we do today, we will try to leave here on Tuesday.

Tuesday, April 3, 2012

We had a nice visit with Bob and Janet today. It really helped to make the time pass in an easy, relaxing way. It took my mind off of my problems and made the day a lot more enjoyable. It seems that today is better than yesterday and I'm hoping that continues until all of the pain goes away. We are expecting to be here at least through Friday because Gina has sent our mail and it should arrive on Friday. Hopefully, by then we can think about moving on. Time will tell.

April Fool's Day

This morning when I woke up, my pain is right back where it started. I am so disappointed and so is John. We were kind of hoping to be making plans to move on again. I wish I could say this is an April Fool's Day Joke, but it definitely is not. I remain hopeful that I will be better by the end of the week. Keep your fingers crossed as this is getting really old fast.
